Rose Gardening Tools: Tools For Beauty

If you have the right tools then growing roses can be easy and fun. As you begin your rose gardening career it is important to start with the right plants for your surroundings and the right tools to create and maintain a beautiful garden. The basic tools of a rose gardener are pruners, loppers, a long-handed shovel, a wheelbarrow, gloves, kneeling pads, a short handed digging fork, a watering wand, a garden rake and a leaf rake. You may already have some of these tools from your other gardening experiences and all of these items can be purchased at your local garden center.

Pruners are one tool that are indispensable to the active rose grower and you may find that you use them every day. Pruners come in two virilities, an anvil pruner and a bypass pruner. You want to get a bypass pruner for your roses so that you donít crush the sometimes delicate canes and stems of your roses.

This is not something that a novice rose gardening will need right away but when your roses start to mature it will come in handy for cutting back the thick canes that you just canít seem to get through easily with your pruners.

Long-Handed Shovel
If you donít already have one then get one cause you will need it in your rose growing career. Save yourself trouble and blisters later by buying a good lightweight shovel with a padded handle. Yes, it will cost a little more, but your hands are worth it.

Another item that you need if you donít already have one. Sooner or later you will get tired of making twelve trips to the shed or having plastic garbage bags burst on your way back from the garden. Buy yourself a wheelbarrow so that you can start to enjoy your new hobby with the proper equipment. Plus it will take a lot of pressure off your helpers and their backs.

Gardening Gloves
By now you should have realized that roses have thorns and unless you are addicted to pain then buy yourself a pair of good, leather work gloves. Protect yourself from the roseís pain so that you can better enjoy their pleasure.

Kneeling Pads
Since you will be spending a lot of time on your knees tending your roses you will need a pair of kneeling pads. These tend to come in two basic types, strap-ons or bigger ones with handles. Try the bigger ones with handles first as most people find that they do the trick.

Short Garden Digging Fork
You will need this for turning the soil in small areas and select one with a solid handle and steel forks.

Watering Wand
This is good for giving all your roses a good root soaking. You might as well spend the money for a good one with brass fittings since you will only have to keep replacing the plastic ones.

Once again, if you donít already have a garden rake and a leaf rake, go out and buy one of each. The garden rake will be used to level and smooth beds and the leaf rake will help you clean up the area around your roses.

Rose Gardening Tip.

The rose garden planting season is just around the courner. It is time to collect and sharpen you gardening tools. This is also a good time to finalize that plan for that special something new that you are going to try in the garden this year.

Remember most roses like at least 4 or 5 hours of sun each day. In addition, good drainage is a must.
